Athletics Festival 2011

On Friday 24th June members of year 4 and 6 represented the school at the Gateshead Schools Athletics Festival held at Gateshead Stadium. All the children behaved impeccably and were fantastic ambassadors for St Peter's.  We got into the semi finals and finals for several events and were hoarse shouting for our team members. thierry.JPG archie.JPG

Well done to everyone for all their efforts and congratulations to Archie and Thierry for winning a medal!

Thanks also to all the parents who came along to support our team. It was much appreciated by us all!

Oh I Do Like To Be Beside the Seaside!

IMG_9825[1].JPGIMG_9797[1].JPG IMG_9799[1].JPGYear 1 had a fantastic trip to the Sea Life Centre as part of our 'At the Seaside' topic. We saw lots of different underwater creatures and even got to hold some of them! We also got the chance to go and play on the beach and to explore the rock pools. We were even brave enough to paddle in the sea-it was very cold! All that fresh sea air must have worked wonders because we all fell asleep on the bus on the way home. A big thank you to all the helpers that came with us!

Year 4 make some new friends!

IMG_0614.JPGOn Monday IMG_0611.JPGYear 4 went to the Dryden School as part of our partnership school programme. We had a fantastic time meeting the children at the school and made lots of new friends. We also had the opportunity to take part in a zoo lab where we encountered even more news friends in the shape of an African snail, a cockroach and a snake! We are looking forward to entertaining our new friends from the Dryden School when they come to visit us next term! IMG_0616.JPG

Year 4 CLC Trip

Year 4 have been learning about how to write detailed recounts this week. We had a competition in class to write the most interesting recount about our day at the CLC, here is the winning entry!

Our Day at The CLC

IMG_0573.jpg

On Tuesday the whole of Year 4 class went to the Gateshead CLC. The bus picked us up at ten past nine and everyone got on the bus. When we got on the bus I sat next to Benjamin and we talked about Club Penguin. The time it took to get to the CLC was about 10 minutes. "I was very excited to get to the CLC because we were going to learn about the Titanic," said Benjamin.

When we got to the CLC Mr Mullen was waiting for us inside. He gathered us up on the carpet and we watched some videos about the Titanic so we had an idea for the work we were going to do. "I was very excited and chuffed to bits becuase we were at the CLC!" said Jack.

Next Mr Mullen called us all to a computer to find a picture for our first slide. The next part was we needed to put some words onto our slides. The last part was recording our voices onto the film. "It is really exciting making films because it is fun!" said Katie.

IMG_0583.jpgIt was really fun making the movies and Mr Mullen also said we could add music to our slides as well. For my music I used the sad emotion and used the harp instrument tool. Next Mr Mullen said we had to save our work and we could watch them back on our computers at school. "It was very fun making the movies and as a result I am looking forward to learning more about the Titanic," said Oscar.

Next we got on the bus and left the CLC. I sat next to Benjamin again but we didn't really talk much on they way home because we were both tired! "I was really hungry when we got back to school because it was lunch time!" said Nieve.

We really enjoyed our day at Gateshead CLC!

Year 3 - Community Cohesion Project

Year 3 children have begun a Community Cohesion project linking with another school in Gateshead, Falla Park Community Primary School. This is an exciting new project where the children from each school will get to know each other and work together to produce a piece of art work for each school. The end product will be a hanging for each school representing the children, where they live and their hopes and dreams for the future!

The children will be working with visual artist Alison Ashton who has produced some work with children currently on display in the Discovery museum -so keep a look out if you are there at half term. The children have exchanged letters and on Tuesday met at Saltwell Park for an afternoon of team building games and making friends.

Year 5 Poetry Workshop at CHCS

Year 5 were treated to a poetry workshop at Cardinal Hume Catholic School on Monday 8th June.

Led by the well-known children's poet, Christine Michaels, it gave the children the opportunity to explore the joys of different types of poetry. Following on from this workshop, the children are now working hard to create their own individual poems, as well as a joint effort poem by the whole class.  Once the class poem is perfected, it will be performed at CHCS on June 25th in front of other schools from the cluster and parents. Details of this will follow.

We know we can rely on our Year 5 children to give it their best shot!

Eco Warriors visit to the Allotment

Yesterday, Thursday 19th March, Mrs McArthur and the eco warriors visited Mrs Heslop's allotment at Whinney Park. Mrs Heslop showed us around her allotment and explained to us all the different types of vegetables and plants that she grows. We all managed to do a bit of digging and planting of our own!
We will be visiting regularly over the summer months as we all know how beneficial growing our own produce is. Not only does it taste much better but it reduces our carbon footprint and growing our own is great fun at the same time!
Thankyou to Mrs Heslop for giving us this opportunity.IMG_0177.jpgIMG_0178.jpgIMG_0182.jpg

Every class has visited the Shipley Art Gallery to continue to promote the 'Arts' within school. The children have learnt about pattern, chairs, clay modelling and looked at the art works in the Gallery itself. The children all enjoyed their visits and learnt a lot!
