We had a massive warm up with all of the other schools, then the race began. We set off in groups, boys then girls in each year group! It was exhausting but lots of fun!

Green Day 2010

Picture 008.jpg green day 114.jpgOn Tuesday 15th June we celebrated our whole school Green Day. Each child came to school dressed in something green and participated in a wide range of eco activities. We were so lucky to have two outside agencies in school. 'Twottodo' worked with the children making table top scarecrows, bugs and puppets. 'Zoo Lab' ran workshops for each class. The infants looked at how nature naturally recyles and the juniors learnt all about biodiversity. All the children took part in treasure hunts across both school yards. Everyone had so much fun! Please join us in the school hall green day 071.jpgon Wednesday 16th June at 3.15pm to look at what your child made and to view photographs of the day.

A Journey Into The Past

IMG_0214.jpg
Mrs Margaret Minns and her two friends fromthe 'That Was then' project visited Year 6 to talk about their experiences during World War 2. They spoke about being evacuated, school life, black-outs, even their favourite sweets at that time.
IMG_0211.jpg
It was a wonderful afternoon. We all learned a great deal about that time and it really helped bring our creative curriculum topic to life. Our visiting parents and grandparents also enjoyed the session!

Sally Prue

We were very lucky today. Sally Prue, author of James and the Alien Experiment, The Truth Slayer and Cold Tom and many more other exciting books, visited Years 4, 5 and 6.
She told us lots of funny and exciting stories about how she became a childrens author and we even had the opportunity to have our books signed by her.

Sally was very impressed by all of the children at St Peter's and has even asked if Year 4 could send her copies of the writing they have done during their literacy lesson. The missing chapter of 'James and the Alien Experiment'. We are so excited !

Year 5 Poetry Workshop at CHCS

Year 5 were treated to a poetry workshop at Cardinal Hume Catholic School on Monday 8th June.

Led by the well-known children's poet, Christine Michaels, it gave the children the opportunity to explore the joys of different types of poetry. Following on from this workshop, the children are now working hard to create their own individual poems, as well as a joint effort poem by the whole class.  Once the class poem is perfected, it will be performed at CHCS on June 25th in front of other schools from the cluster and parents. Details of this will follow.

We know we can rely on our Year 5 children to give it their best shot!

  • Chinese songs and games
  • how to count to 10 in Chinese
  • some T'ai Chi moves.

One of the students treated us to a recital on the flute of some Chinese music. Thanks again to the students for giving us this wonderful opportunity to discover and experience their culture.IMG_0199.jpg IMG_0287.jpg IMG_0297.jpg IMG_0302.jpg

French breakfast is a roaring success!

Congratualtions to the French club for hosting a brilliant French Breakfast morning on Friday 28th March! The event was enjoyed by everyone and over 70 chocolate croissants were sold as well as other delicious foods such as toast, cheese and crackers and baguettes. Everyone who attended the event commented on the excellent French spoken by our Year Five French club and the French club themselves were very impressed by how many children tried to order their breakfast in French! The morning was a huge success and we hope to follow it up with another morning for the whole school to enjoy! Once again a big thankyou to everyone who attended and supported the morning. We hope you all enjoyed yourselves. Check out the pictures from the morning and see if you can spot yourself enjoying some of our excellent french food!

Music Workshop

Years 3, 4 and 5 enjoyed a lively morning of music led by the Gateshead LEA Specialists Team. The theme was Food. The children throughly enjoyed singing a selection of songs from the Caribbean and traditional Britsih songs and rhymes. The children were invited to join the band and had the opportunity to play a variety of percussion instruments.
Rhythm and melody were the teaching focus of this very enjoyable session.
We would like to take this opportunity to thank all those involved for their expertise and guidance.

French Breakfast!

Bonjour!
Comment ca va?
The Year Five French club have had their heads down working very hard to prepare for the French Breakfast morning. The morning will be held at 8:30 till 9am in the school hall on Friday the 28th of March for all of Key Stage Two (sorry Key Stage One, we hope to hold a one for you later in the school year!) so come along and ask for your breakfast in French! Check out the menus in your class for prices and don't forget to look at the posters that tell you how to ask for food in French!
We hope to see you there!

Fantastic liturgical dancing.

Well done to all of year Five for their excellent liturgical dance to 'My Jesus, My Saviour' which formed part of our Easter reconcilliation service. The children worked very hard to learn the dance and put their own ideas into it. I think that it really helped us to reflect upon what Jesus did in sacrificing his life, so an extra well done to Year Five for helping the school do that. Lets hope that our next dance will be as successful! I'm really looking forward to doing more of this work with you Year Five!
Miss Alberts

Year Five are busy bees!

Year Five have been up to so much recently! We had a fantastic day and evening performance at Cardinal Hume where we got to know lots of other children from the local Catholic schools. We thoroughly enjoyed singing in the choir and entertaining our parents. Thankyou to all of the parents who came and showed their support. The children worked incredibly hard and sang beautifully.

Bonjour from the French Club!!!!

Bonjour everyone, we are the members of the fantastic Year Five French club! We meet every Thursday night after school and we are currently learning an exciting poem about the local town. We have learnt some useful phrases such as, "la patinoire," "le cafe," "la discotheque" and "la gare" which are all words in our poem. As soon as we know our poem off by heart we will record it and let you have a listen so keep a look out to see how we are doing! We have even tried some delicious French food such as chocolate filled crepes.

Year Five excel themselves!

Year Five led today's Ash Wednesday service at St Peter's Church which was dedicated to the memory of Mr Jim Murray, who was deputy head at St Peter's for many years. The mass was a brilliant success and was enjoyed by the whole school, Mr Murray's family and the parish. The children organised the whole mass themselves by choosing hymns and readings. The service was well attended and the whole school sang beautifully. Year Five read confidently and made their teacher, Miss Alberts, incredibly proud. Mr Murray's family who attended the mass commented on how fantastic the children were and how Mr Murray would have really enjoyed it.

Konflux theatre Group

The school will be visited by the 'Konflux Theatre Group' tomorrow. Four classes will be taking part in various drama based activities throughout the day. Reception Class, Year 1, Year 2 and Year 5 will each have a one hour session with the group. Make sure to find out how it went by visiting our brand new website in the next couple of days.
