Water Water everywhere - but where does it come from and where does it go? Year 5 will be able to tell you very soon!
Year 5 visited Bede's World to find out about the the Anglo-Saxons. We explored a Saxon village and dressed in Saxon clothing.
We also visited the museum and discovered so many facts about the life of St. Bede, who lived in Jarrow.
We visited St. Paul's Church and the small chapel where St. Bede used to pray.
We found out all about the life of a Saxon monk and the amazing legacy of St. Bede.
'A fantastic trip!'
What kinds of things went on during Viking and Saxon times?
Year 5 are about to find out!
Key Stage

We were all thrilled to be running along side Olympic bronze medalist,Tasha Danvers . All of the children were fantastic and put in some truly brilliant performances, staff also joined in and tried to keep
up! Well done to all the children for their
amazing effort and a big thank you to all parents who accompanied us on our walk to the park
and cheered us on!
Year Five had an exciting afternoon designing and painting Fairtrade cotton at the Baltic Arts Centre. They had the opportunity to work with the artist in residence, Paul, to help complete an amazing challenge to produce the longest handmade bunting in the world!
On Friday 11th March pupils from Year 4 and 5 represented our school and marched along Gateshead Quayside and over the Millennium Bridge where the bunting was proudly displayed. What a way to celebrate Fairtrade Fortnight!! We even met the Mayor of Gateshead and had our photo taken with him.

The childre

We were all very excited (and a little nervous) to perform on stage at The Sage and put on a truly amazing performance! We looked fantastic in our costumes, complete with face paint and glamorous hair dos!
Make sure you pick up a copy of this evening's Chronicle to see our picture in the paper! A massive congratulations to the children in Dance Club for bringing the house down yesterday, and a big thank you to parents, grandparents, aunties, uncles and friends who came to support us.
Year five have been raft building. As part of our Robinson Crusoe writing project we have been constructing rafts using natural materials. We worked in small teams planning, designing and testing our amazing constructions. The testing involved the raft being stable and waterproof. Amazingly all boats floated happily in the reception class water trough! We had a wonderful time and were proud of the fact we worked well together and all boats were a success(they also looked amazing too)!

Today in Eco Club we sold the vegetables that we planted in April. We sold lettuce, onions and potatoes and made £23.40 and we are going to put it to good use next year. Our carrots and cabbages are looking very healthy but will not be ready until the autumn. We look forward to seeing you early next term for another vegetable sale. Ella Crawley Year 4
All of our super fit juniors completed the Tesco Great School run today in the glorious sunshine at Saltwell Park!
We had a massive warm up with all of the other schools, then the race began. We set off in groups, boys then girls in each year group! It was exhausting but lots of fun!
Special Congratulations to Cameron, Connor and Ryan who came 1st, 2nd and 3rd in the boys race and to Bridget who came first for the girls! Well done!!
On Tuesday 15th June we celebrated our whole school Green Day. Each child came to school dressed in something green and participated in a wide range of eco activities. We were so lucky to have two outside agencies in school. 'Twottodo' worked with the children making table top scarecrows, bugs and puppets. 'Zoo Lab' ran workshops for each class. The infants looked at how nature naturally recyles and the juniors learnt all about biodiversity. All the children took part in treasure hunts across both school yards. Everyone had so much fun! Please join us in the school hall
on Wednesday 16th June at 3.15pm to look at what your child made and to view photographs of the day.
On Tuesday 8th June the Year 5's kicked off the World Cup with an assembly entitled 'Send My Friend To School'. Send My Friend To School is a national initiative aimed at raising awareness that 72 million children are not able to go to school. The children have also written letters to our local MP and will be sending a petition from the parents, and a scarf with their signatures on, to Mr Cameron.![]()
" I felt proud of what we were doing and hope that we have raised awareness of the fact that all those children can't go to school."
Lucy McBride Year 5
On Tuesday 8th June Year 5 took part in Crazy Catwalk Capers, a performance for the whole school and parents. In class this half term the children have been learning about how fashion has changed through the ages. The show on Tuesday enabled them to share with the rest of the school a little of what they had learned. Mrs Gaby Sutton visited school and brought in a range of clothes spanning the decades, which some of the staff modelled. Each child in year 5 then modelled their own T shirt design. We all had so much fun! The children organised a cake stall and raffle to raise money for a charity which Mrs Sutton supports. We raised over £100. Thankyou to everyone who came to support us.

" I really enjoyed the day. We all had such fun! I especially liked Miss Swales pink dress" Olivia Milburn Year 5
In Year 5 we have linked with a school in the Kumbo Diocese of Cameroon called St Martin de Porres. Miss Hughes visited us and told us about what life was like there for children like us. They have to pay to get an education, they have to provide their own pens and pencils and if they didn't have one the teacher would send them home! The children would have to walk long distances to school some for as long 2 hours.
Miss Hughes was going back to Cameroon for another visit so we asked her if she would take some 'hands of friendship' from our class to the children there. We wrote out names and a bit about ourselves on one hand and when Miss Hughes took them to Cameroon the children there did the same and sent them back to us! We were all very excited to have the opportunity to share ideas and feelings with children on the other side of the world.
We also sent 2 of our favourite books, 'Fantastic Mr Fox' and 'Kensuke's Kingdom', over to the children to help start a library for them and hopefully next time we could send some more!
We are going to go to Mass at St Peter's in a couple of weeks time to tell the Parishioners all about our friends across the sea.
We really enjoyed this activity and so did the children from Cameroon as they said it was the most exciting thing they had ever done! we hope to continue this link by sending some letters and would like to start a joint project with the children there - we can learn so much from each other - we think it would be great!
by Olivia and James.
Today, 8th February, the year 5's were visited by Mary Hughes, a parishioner from St Peter's. Mary taught in Africa for many years and is going to visit there during our half term. The year 5's have sent some work across with her and we have donated 2 books to the children for their enjoyment. We are hoping that they keep in touch and let us know what they thought of the books!
Year 2 and Year 5 were really lucky yesterday when the Creepy Crawly Roadshow came to St Peter's. Alex showed and talked about all her creatures and we learnt loads! She brought a hissing cockroach, millipede, 2 very big land snails, Rosie the Rose Tarantula and Binky the python!!
Some children from each class were lucky enough to hold one of the creatures and we could all have Binky the snake in either our hands or around our necks. everyonewas very brave and we even found that the creatures weren't as scary as we might have thought before Alex's visit.
Alex's website with lots more information about her animals is... www.creepycrawlyroadshow.com.

We were very lucky today. Sally Prue, author of James and the Alien Experiment, The Truth Slayer and Cold Tom and many more other exciting books, visited Years 4, 5 and 6.
She told us lots of funny and exciting stories about how she became a childrens author and we even had the opportunity to have our books signed by her.
Sally was very impressed by all of the children at St Peter's and has even asked if Year 4 could send her copies of the writing they have done during their literacy lesson. The missing chapter of 'James and the Alien Experiment'. We are so excited !
In Year 4 this half term we are exploring persuasive writing. We have been analysing adverts on television, in magazines and trailers for films. This week we have been looking closely at how we are persuaded by film trailers.
Our mission this week was to critically analyse two trailers looking closely at how the audience would be persuaded to go and see them.
After taking notes about the trailers, we all had to go to a meeting arranged by Mrs Brand. We sat in the meeting and had to persuade Mrs Brand and our team why our films were the best and how our company 'St Peter's Enterprise' should promote this film. We had great fun and we can't wait for our next challenge !
On Monday a visitor from the 'MAGIC LANTERN' company came to our school. We had a great time in Year 4. We had chosen to explore the artist Seurat. Pippa showed us a variety of different slides displaying a variety of artists work. We explored the different painting techniques they used in comparison to Seurat. We can't wiat to make our own paintings in the style of Seurat !
As part of our art topic we have been using the digital cameras to take photos around our school. We are using our photos to produce a story board about a dream which takes place in our school. We have had great fun exploring a computer graphics programme which has allowed us to edit and change our photos. They look great !
In year 4 this half term we have really been getting our teeth into a collection of books called Super Powers written by the author Alex Cliff.
We are producing a writing journal to accompany the books and have also been exploring writing through drama.
We have been hot seating the different characters in the story and even took part in an activity called conscience alley. We had to decide if we were going to be persuaded by the good side or the bad !
We are having great fun reading these books. We have completed The Jaws of Doom and are currently reading the Heads of Horror we can't wait each day to find out what adventures Max and Finlay have been getting up to !
The start of the new school year has brought about some exciting new opportunities for our children in music.
Mrs. Chisman is back after a long absence.
Tuesday 26th and Wednesday 27th February
Owing to unforeseen circumstances, we shall be holding Parents’ Evenings for Year 4 in the week prior to the dates previously published.
Unfortunately, Miss Caldwell will be leaving us on Friday 29th February to continue her travels around the UK and the rest of Europe. We have thoroughly enjoyed having her as part of our staff and wish her well for the future.
We feel it is valuable to hold a Parents’ Night before she leaves so that you have the opportunity to discuss your child’s progress in school.Your appointment time is shown on the attached sheet
