Year 2 know how to make it shine! Find out how...
London's burning, London's burning, fetch the engines, fetch the engines!
Over the last few weeks some strange visitors have been seen in our school. This is all due to Year 2 and their current topic, 'The Animals went in 2 by 2.' We were lucky enough to be visited by the 'Creepy Crawly Roadshow' where the children were given the opportunity to handle allsorts of critters including cockroaches, tarantulas, lizards and snakes. The children loved the experience and all were keen to handle the various animals with the exception of Mrs. Moreland who kept a safe distance when Rosie the tarantula came out to meet everyone! Well done children and thank you to the parents who came along too.
Later that week Year 2 were visited by Tilly the barn owl. This was another
fantastic opportunity for the children to learn lots of interesting facts about owls and get to stroke her, and also what would usually be her lunch, a pet rat. again the children learned so much from this experience and we would like to say a big thank you to Mr. Morrison for bringing Tilly to see us.
On Tuesday 15th June we celebrated our whole school Green Day. Each child came to school dressed in something green and participated in a wide range of eco activities. We were so lucky to have two outside agencies in school. 'Twottodo' worked with the children making table top scarecrows, bugs and puppets. 'Zoo Lab' ran workshops for each class. The infants looked at how nature naturally recyles and the juniors learnt all about biodiversity. All the children took part in treasure hunts across both school yards. Everyone had so much fun! Please join us in the school hall
on Wednesday 16th June at 3.15pm to look at what your child made and to view photographs of the day.
The children in year 2 have been designing and creating their own restaurant. We designed a name for our restaurant, created a menu and made our own food! We invited our parents in to join us for our special opening.
With our chef hats and aprons on, we made yummy fruit smoothies for our parents. Then we made beautiful smiley face sandwhiches, followed by stripy pudding desserts.
They were delicious! Miss Bingham was SO proud!

Year 2 and Year 5 were really lucky yesterday when the Creepy Crawly Roadshow came to St Peter's. Alex showed and talked about all her creatures and we learnt loads! She brought a hissing cockroach, millipede, 2 very big land snails, Rosie the Rose Tarantula and Binky the python!!
Some children from each class were lucky enough to hold one of the creatures and we could all have Binky the snake in either our hands or around our necks. everyonewas very brave and we even found that the creatures weren't as scary as we might have thought before Alex's visit.
Alex's website with lots more information about her animals is... www.creepycrawlyroadshow.com.

This year's KS1 nativity was excellent as always! The story was all about a star who had lost his shine but found it again when he saw Jesus in the manger. Thank you to all staff for their hard work and to all of the children who sang, spoke, acted and danced with gusto!!!
Here are a few nativity photos for you to enjoy!
What little angels they are!
Kings and camels had to travel a long way in the dark!
and so did the shepherds and sheep!
...they certainly were stars and the whole of Reception, Year 1 and Year 2 shone!
On Tuesday the 3rd of February our Year 1 and Year 2 children visited Heworth CLC to spend a day working on computers. Both classes spent the day working through 'modelling' exercises on the computers.
Year 1 began their day experiencing a simulated train journey going onto designing their own trains on the 2Simple computer program.
In the afternoon they used the 'Kahootz' computer program to create Cinderella storyboards. This encouraged the children to use lots of mouse skills including dragging, left-clicking and right clicking.
Jennifer in Year 1 said 'I liked the train ride because it was lots of fun like you were on a real train.' Jenny from Year 1 added 'I really liked making the Cinderella boards because I learnt how to do lots of new things.'
The children in Year 1 have been enjoying looking at traditional tales so much that two members of the class used their area time to write their own version of 'Little Red Riding Hood'.
