A very busy time of year - and we aren't even talking about the Nativity! Find out about Festivals around the world with Reception Class.
As the inclement weather is fast approaching (and in some cases has already arrived), we are trying to develop a Rainy Day box for the children to play and experiment with outdoors on a rainy day.
To do this, we need resources and are hoping that kind families could donate anything from the list to our cause.
Umbrellas
Buckets
Plastic Tubes
Plastic pipes
Waterproof hats
Waterpoof coats
This list is by no means exhaustive, any other suggestions and donations would be greatefully received!
Many Thanks in advance,
Mrs Toward and Mrs Mackay
To celebrate the end of our first half term in school, Reception class would like to invite their families into school this Friday at 2pm to look around our classroom and have a look at some of the things we have been doing over the last few weeks.
There will be coffee and tea served in the hall and everyone will get the opportunity to look around the classroom and share in the achievements of the children.
Children will be able to go home straight after the event is over, as will siblings in other classes.
Hope to see you there!
Our new Reception class managed their first full week in school last week and proved themselves to be another fantastic class that we have here in St. Peter's. Already relationships have been established and the seeds of friendships sown that will hopefully last for a very long time.
Excellent partnerships have been established with Year 6 buddies who are doing such an excellent job at helping the little ones settle in.
Hope you enjoy the photos of a lovely week!
After a brillliant weekend at Eduardo's house, the chicks returned to school on Monday, bigger and full of energy! There was a miracle at home time on Friday before Eduardo's daddy picked them up when one of the eggs that we had thought wouldn't hatch began to crack! A quick decision had to be made for the safety of the chick as it had to travel home in the incubator and it was rolling around whenever the box was picked up. Up step Mrs Lawson who added midwife to her list of skills when she hatched the chick out of the egg! It went home happily in the incubator and made a full recovery at Eduardo's house over the weekend. Many thanks to his family who took such great care of the chicks and had a great time!
In class, children have really enjoyed the experience of the chicks, they have been taking really good care of them, feeding them weetabix and digging for worms! We fed them worms on Wednesday and the chicks had a great time fighting over the juiciest ones! Sadly they have to go back to the farm on Friday unless we find a suitable allotment and a willing carer...any takers?!!!
All chilled out with Ed
Sleepy Luca?!
The children came into school this morning to be greeted by the sight of our first arrival from the Living Eggs programme!
Chick number 1 (name suggestions welcome - we think it's a boy) arrived early on this morning and was just beginning to find its way around the incubator in time for breakfast club to witness. After that followed a hatching frenzy with another hatching before lunch (a girl this time) then two more hatched before hometime! (Still a bit early to see what kind these ones are!) When the children left to go home, there were another 2 chicks 'pipping' which means they should arrive within a few hours.
As expected the children have been very excited to greet our new arrivals and can't wait until they are transferred to the brooder box and will be strong enough to be held. The draw for the lucky family to take them home will take place tomorrow, many thanks to all who offered.
The first year for our Reception children is really flying by, with February half term fast approaching, they are all working exceptionally hard and making some excellent progress. Whether at work or play, the children are all trying their best and producing some lovely work, whilst continuing to establish and develop their friendships. Hard work is tiring but lots of fun!
Puppet show - everything including the theatre was designed and made by the children themselves!
The boys decided to have a picnic on the carpet, making sure they had enough food to cater for all tastes!
Harry is our resident artist, this is the latest of his fire pictures.
Luke and Mackenzie worked together to build the castle behind them, it took the boys a long time but they showed excellent team work!
The castle up close!
Eduardo knows how to make a repeating pattern. What a star!!
Reception Class have been in school full time for 5 whole weeks now and are working hard, forming lovely friendships and finding their way around very well!
We have started to learn our sounds using our Phonics, as well as learning our numbers to 10 and have even looked at adding!
We play outdoors, (whatever the weather!) and have taken delivery of new toys to play with, all in all we have been having lots of fun, especially on soft play days!
On Tuesday 15th June we celebrated our whole school Green Day. Each child came to school dressed in something green and participated in a wide range of eco activities. We were so lucky to have two outside agencies in school. 'Twottodo' worked with the children making table top scarecrows, bugs and puppets. 'Zoo Lab' ran workshops for each class. The infants looked at how nature naturally recyles and the juniors learnt all about biodiversity. All the children took part in treasure hunts across both school yards. Everyone had so much fun! Please join us in the school hall
on Wednesday 16th June at 3.15pm to look at what your child made and to view photographs of the day.
Just before half term, Reception class were rewarded with a tea party thrown by Jim the Giant to say thank you for all of their hard work.
Jim came to visit us on the morning of the party but he was too tall to fit in the classroom so we went out into the yard to meet him.
We played games, danced, sang and even did a catwalk on the stage to show off our party clothes! We all enjoyed the party and ate food that Jilly, Jim's wife had prepared for us and enjoyed the sweet treats that parents sent in.
After the party, all of the parents were invited into our classroom to look around and to watch a Powerpoint that showed what we have been learning. It was a great day when everyone had fun. We can't wait to begin our next topic on Old Mc Donald had a Farm!
This year's KS1 nativity was excellent as always! The story was all about a star who had lost his shine but found it again when he saw Jesus in the manger. Thank you to all staff for their hard work and to all of the children who sang, spoke, acted and danced with gusto!!!
Here are a few nativity photos for you to enjoy!
What little angels they are!
Kings and camels had to travel a long way in the dark!
and so did the shepherds and sheep!
...they certainly were stars and the whole of Reception, Year 1 and Year 2 shone!
