In Year 5 we have linked with a school in the Kumbo Diocese of Cameroon called St Martin de Porres. Miss Hughes visited us and told us about what life was like there for children like us. They have to pay to get an education, they have to provide their own pens and pencils and if they didn't have one the teacher would send them home! The children would have to walk long distances to school some for as long 2 hours.
Miss Hughes was going back to Cameroon for another visit so we asked her if she would take some 'hands of friendship' from our class to the children there. We wrote out names and a bit about ourselves on one hand and when Miss Hughes took them to Cameroon the children there did the same and sent them back to us! We were all very excited to have the opportunity to share ideas and feelings with children on the other side of the world.
We also sent 2 of our favourite books, 'Fantastic Mr Fox' and 'Kensuke's Kingdom', over to the children to help start a library for them and hopefully next time we could send some more!
We are going to go to Mass at St Peter's in a couple of weeks time to tell the Parishioners all about our friends across the sea.
We really enjoyed this activity and so did the children from Cameroon as they said it was the most exciting thing they had ever done! we hope to continue this link by sending some letters and would like to start a joint project with the children there - we can learn so much from each other - we think it would be great!

On Monday 1st February the Yellow 5p bus visited our school. The bus helps the homeless people in the region and people who can't afford to buy clothes fully priced. Everything on board the bus costs 5p!! The Yellow Bus brings clothes, books, shoes, games and toys to people who need them instead of them having to go to a charity shop. St Cuthbert's Care is the charity that runs the bus - it costs £40,000 each year to run.
When the bus came to school each class got to go inside and see all of the things they had for sale. We were really impressed. Ken a volunteer told us all about how the bus works and where it goes. We can help by donating clothes for any age, shoes and toys. We can also help by raising money to make sure this excellent project continues.
All around the Diocese schools are taking part in a non uniform day on February 12th to help to raise funds. This will help to pay for petrol for the bus as even the drivers are volunteers! Please help us by coming in non uniform and making a donation on that day.
Thank you,
by Ella, Trudy, Amy & Marlene. (Y4)

Firstly our Bible 'quote of the day' - this is a new quotation each day giving us something to think about and telling us where in the Bible it can be found. You can see this feature underneath Mrs Stokoe's introduction on the website and Im sure it will be especially useful for times such as Lent and Advent.
Secondly following feedback from our wonderful Expo-chef day we have the logo at the bottom left of the screen when you scroll right down. If you click on the logo it will take you to the Expo-chef homepage where you can find lots more healthy recipes and ideas to make food more fun!

Yesterday was the celebration of Eid-ul-Fitr which is the festival which marks the end of Ramadan.
Some of our children are beautifully decorated to celebrate this happy festival.
The children's hands are all decorated with different patterns and if you look very carefully you will be able to see different colours too!
We would like to take this opportunity to wish all our Muslim children and their families "Eid Mubarak" (A Blessed Eid).

14 children from our school were chosen to participate in this fantastic opportunity last week. They were invited to visit the Metro Centre to meet one of the stars of 'Walking with Dinosaurs' - an 8 foot Baby T-Rex!
Everyone was very impressed with how the T-Rex behaved and we even managed to bring 14 children home again despite it being lunchtime for him!
Some of us were even brave enough to give him a pat!
When the children returned to school they told the rest of their friends all about it and we looked at the photos to see how the dinosaur worked - can you tell?
Now we're all really looking forward to July 9th when we're going to the Metro Arena to see 'Baby T' and all his friends!

All of these children have brought in their medals, certificates or trophies to show us how well they are doing in their after school activities - Karate, swimming, theatre craft and horse riding. Remember to bring these in too if you have something to celebrate!
We were visited today by Maureen from the People's Kitchen. She told us all about how it was set up in the first place and what they did to help people in the area. She was delighted with the 150 eggs ! you brought in to give to all her clients. She asked if we could collect some other things to help the clients next term such as sleeping bags, blankets, wooly hats and outdoor clothing for men, shoes and socks and jeans. We are going to speak to the School Council and see what they would like to do to help this worthwhile charity!
We were delighted so many visitors came to see all our Easter arts and crafts. We have worked extremely hard but it was all worth it! We had so many eggs it was hard to choose winners from each class, everyone was so imaginative - Well done to all who took part! Our Year 6 children paraded with their bonnets too with their wonderful creations - some of which were edible!
Happy Easter

Year 5 led a very interesting and colourful Liturgy based on the harvest. the children read, sang and prayed together with parents using the harvest produce brought into school by the children as a focal area.
Children nominated an elderly person in their family or street and delivered the harvest parcel once it had been assembled.
The remainder of the food was sent to Hawkesbury House a local care home where we have developed excellent links throughout the last few years. Our head boy and girl were great ambassadors as they delivered the harvest produce to the residents.
Our school councillors have been elected for the new academic year by their classmates. The council also includes our Head Boy and Girl. They have all had their first meeting where they discussed rewards for 'Golden Time' after they had consulted all the members of their class. They also emptied and discussed ideas in the school suggestion box!
Members were elected to posts within the council such as Chairperson and Secretary. The council reported back to the whole school during assembly on Friday.
Well done to all members and keep up the good work!
"I would like to be a successful school councillor this year by listening to other people and taking ideas on. I will try to make this a special year for our school and try to make it the happiest school in Gateshead and fun aswell!" (Year 6 School Councillor)
All Welcome!
St Peter and St Paul - 29th June
Year 2 really helped us to celebrate our Saint's Feast Day at our weekly Tuesday Assembly. The children talked about both St Peter and St Paul and even had a poem about the two disciples. We sang 'Peter was a Fisherman' and some children did a small role play to show us the meaning behind the words.
What a wonderful assembly - Thank you Year2!
We are delighted to announce that we have been awarded both the Bronze and Silver Eco Awards for our school this term. Miss Alberts along with Year 5 led the rest of the school to gain this ecological award. Our Eco Warriors have regular meetings and talked to the whole school about how we can continue to improve our environment.
Well done everyone - let's keep up the good work and we may get the most prestigious award which is a Green Flag!
As it was St George's Day yesterday we have put 2 diffrent jigsaws onto the web for you to try! Have fun!

We hold this event to share all the hard work the children have been doing in class linked to Easter. This year as well as the eggs decorated at home there were cards, candles, pots, baskets, pop up chicks, boxes and much more - not forgetting the wonderful Easter bonnets traditionally made by our Year 6 children.
We opened on Wednesday night and Thursday morning so that as many parents as possible could see the wonderful crafts made by their children. Thank you to everyone who came.
