Welcome back!
It's been a very busy week here in school with lots of canvassing and voting taking place for school councillors in every class, team captains and vice captains & our Head Boy & Girl. Here are this year's Team House and Vice captains.
St Aidan's Team captain Tegan and Vice Captain - Joe
St Bede's Team Captain Bethan and Vice Captain Aidan.
ST Cuthbert's Team Captain Charlotte and Vice Captain Joseph.
St Oswald's Team Captain Alex and Vice Captain Sebastian.
We have also chosen our new Head Boy and Girl for the year. Every child and teacher in the school voted after some outstanding presentations from all the candidates. It was a very hard decision to make for us all. Our new Head Boy is Tom and our new Head Girl is Abbey and I'm sure they will be excellent ambassadors for our school.
On Friday 24th June members of year 4 and 6 represented the school at the Gateshead Schools Athletics Festival held at Gateshead Stadium. All the children behaved impeccably and were fantastic ambassadors for St Peter's. We got into the semi finals and finals for several events and were hoarse shouting for our team members.

Well done to everyone for all their efforts and congratulations to Archie and Thierry for winning a medal!
Thanks also to all the parents who came along to support our team. It was much appreciated by us all!
Our school has once again been awarded the 'Impetus' Award, for its efforts in promoting children's rights. Year 6 pupils Eve, Lucy, James, Jack, Joseph and Conall led the project along with Mr Campbell, which focused on developing friendships within the school and local community. They produced a diary, wall display and presentation to Impetus representatives to achieve the award. They all worked very hard and Nick Mawson, the Impetus visitor, was "bowled over" by the children's efforts and added they were a "credit to the school". Indeed they are, well done everyone!

Year 4 have been learning about how to write detailed recounts this week. We had a competition in class to write the most interesting recount about our day at the CLC, here is the winning entry!
Our Day at The CLC
On Tuesday the whole of Year 4 class went to the Gateshead CLC. The bus picked us up at ten past nine and everyone got on the bus. When we got on the bus I sat next to Benjamin and we talked about Club Penguin. The time it took to get to the CLC was about 10 minutes. "I was very excited to get to the CLC because we were going to learn about the Titanic," said Benjamin.
When we got to the CLC Mr Mullen was waiting for us inside. He gathered us up on the carpet and we watched some videos about the Titanic so we had an idea for the work we were going to do. "I was very excited and chuffed to bits becuase we were at the CLC!" said Jack.
Next Mr Mullen called us all to a computer to find a picture for our first slide. The next part was we needed to put some words onto our slides. The last part was recording our voices onto the film. "It is really exciting making films because it is fun!" said Katie.
It was really fun making the movies and Mr Mullen also said we could add music to our slides as well. For my music I used the sad emotion and used the harp instrument tool. Next Mr Mullen said we had to save our work and we could watch them back on our computers at school. "It was very fun making the movies and as a result I am looking forward to learning more about the Titanic," said Oscar.
Next we got on the bus and left the CLC. I sat next to Benjamin again but we didn't really talk much on they way home because we were both tired! "I was really hungry when we got back to school because it was lunch time!" said Nieve.
We really enjoyed our day at Gateshead CLC!

Last Thursday, the Eco Warriors were eagerly awaiting the visit from the Eco Schools Assessor to find out if we would qualify for The Green Flag. The Green Flag is awarded to schools that are actively adapting a greener approach to living. The Eco Warriors and all children at St Peters have been working very hard on a whole host of initiatives. Since we have returned from the Easter holidays they have planted a variety of vegetables in our new planters in the junior yard and they have all pledged to do something to support eco issues and the environment. Mr Adey, the Eco Assessor was so impressed with all the wonderful things we have been doing and said we had passed with 'flying colours'.![]()

In Year 5 we have linked with a school in the Kumbo Diocese of Cameroon called St Martin de Porres. Miss Hughes visited us and told us about what life was like there for children like us. They have to pay to get an education, they have to provide their own pens and pencils and if they didn't have one the teacher would send them home! The children would have to walk long distances to school some for as long 2 hours.
Miss Hughes was going back to Cameroon for another visit so we asked her if she would take some 'hands of friendship' from our class to the children there. We wrote out names and a bit about ourselves on one hand and when Miss Hughes took them to Cameroon the children there did the same and sent them back to us! We were all very excited to have the opportunity to share ideas and feelings with children on the other side of the world.
We also sent 2 of our favourite books, 'Fantastic Mr Fox' and 'Kensuke's Kingdom', over to the children to help start a library for them and hopefully next time we could send some more!
We are going to go to Mass at St Peter's in a couple of weeks time to tell the Parishioners all about our friends across the sea.
We really enjoyed this activity and so did the children from Cameroon as they said it was the most exciting thing they had ever done! we hope to continue this link by sending some letters and would like to start a joint project with the children there - we can learn so much from each other - we think it would be great!

On Monday 1st February the Yellow 5p bus visited our school. The bus helps the homeless people in the region and people who can't afford to buy clothes fully priced. Everything on board the bus costs 5p!! The Yellow Bus brings clothes, books, shoes, games and toys to people who need them instead of them having to go to a charity shop. St Cuthbert's Care is the charity that runs the bus - it costs £40,000 each year to run.
When the bus came to school each class got to go inside and see all of the things they had for sale. We were really impressed. Ken a volunteer told us all about how the bus works and where it goes. We can help by donating clothes for any age, shoes and toys. We can also help by raising money to make sure this excellent project continues.
All around the Diocese schools are taking part in a non uniform day on February 12th to help to raise funds. This will help to pay for petrol for the bus as even the drivers are volunteers! Please help us by coming in non uniform and making a donation on that day.
Thank you,

Firstly our Bible 'quote of the day' - this is a new quotation each day giving us something to think about and telling us where in the Bible it can be found. You can see this feature underneath Mrs Stokoe's introduction on the website and Im sure it will be especially useful for times such as Lent and Advent.
Secondly following feedback from our wonderful Expo-chef day we have the logo at the bottom left of the screen when you scroll right down. If you click on the logo it will take you to the Expo-chef homepage where you can find lots more healthy recipes and ideas to make food more fun!
