Dear Parents,
Mrs Hutchinson’s ECO Club will be cancelled on Thursday 27th November as she is involved with a concert at the Dryden Centre that evening. Please ensure that your child is collected at the normal finishing time of 3.15 pm that day.
We apologise for any inconvenience this may cause.
Dear Parents,
Mrs Hutchinson Year 5 Teacher
Mrs Hutchinson will sadly be leaving us at Christmas to go to live in Devon. Mrs Hutchinson has worked at St Peter’s for 10 years and I would like to take this opportunity to thank her for all her hard work and wish her good luck for the future! I am sure she will keep in touch and send us updates from the South!
Chocolate & Bottles
We still need lots of donations of Chocolate and Bottles for the respective Tombola stalls to work – please send any donations into school. Many thanks for your help!
Global Links
I am delighted to inform you that our school is one of 100 schools in the country selected by the British Council to form a global link with a school in China. We will be linked with the district of Luwan in Shanghai. I have been invited along with eight other head teachers from Gateshead, including three other Catholic schools, to visit and begin to forge these links in person. We set off for Beijing this Saturday and transfer to Shanghai a few days later! We will be completing a daily Blog, which can be accessed by the children and staff at school allowing them to follow our very full days and journey around China!
This is a superb chance to extend the learning opportunities for both the staff and children in our school and we are all excited about the close links we are hoping to establish. This also enables us to fulfil the Government’s Global Links Initiative where they require all schools to be linked internationally to at least one other by 2010.
We are hoping to exchange and share projects and information on a variety of topics such as cultural heritage, traditional tales, Arts, ICT and photography. We will begin to link using “Chinese New Year” as an exciting but familiar introduction to Chinese cultures and traditions. We are honoured to have been chosen and know that you will support us in this exciting venture.

Please note the following points:-
1 You may order as many packs as you wish.
2 If you wish to place an order, please complete the order form sent home with your proof Christmas card and return it into school (with your payment) by Wednesday 19th November to allow us time to collate and send received orders. Owing to unforeseen circumstances, Football Club will be cancelled on Thursday 13th November. We apologise for any inconvenience that this may cause.
This year, we will be raising funds for the ‘Children in Need’ appeal and have decided upon the following:
1 The children can bring a bear to school for the day (free of charge).
2 As Pudsey has a new bandanna this year, the children can donate £1.00 and design and make their own bandanna/eye patch for their own bear or for themselves.
3 This is NOT a non-uniform day and all children should come to school dressed in their normal school uniform.
We hope you will join us in supporting this very special event and thank you for your continued support.
Yesterday was a very exciting day in Year 2 as we finally (after much eager anticipation) received our delivery from the 'Living Eggs' programme. 'Living Eggs' is a scheme that allows children to monitor chicks from their time in their eggs and incubator to when they hatch. We are so pleased our eggs are here!

Year 5 led a very interesting and colourful Liturgy based on the harvest. the children read, sang and prayed together with parents using the harvest produce brought into school by the children as a focal area.
Children nominated an elderly person in their family or street and delivered the harvest parcel once it had been assembled.
The remainder of the food was sent to Hawkesbury House a local care home where we have developed excellent links throughout the last few years. Our head boy and girl were great ambassadors as they delivered the harvest produce to the residents.
We have enjoyed another great 'Book week' in school. There have been a range of activities to promote reading and the children have really enjoyed getting involved.
The book fair has again been very successful with many new and exciting stories being bought and taken home.
Our school councillors have been elected for the new academic year by their classmates. The council also includes our Head Boy and Girl. They have all had their first meeting where they discussed rewards for 'Golden Time' after they had consulted all the members of their class. They also emptied and discussed ideas in the school suggestion box!
Members were elected to posts within the council such as Chairperson and Secretary. The council reported back to the whole school during assembly on Friday.
Well done to all members and keep up the good work!
"I would like to be a successful school councillor this year by listening to other people and taking ideas on. I will try to make this a special year for our school and try to make it the happiest school in Gateshead and fun aswell!" (Year 6 School Councillor)
All Welcome!
Our Head Boy and Girl have been voted in for this academic year and have already risen to the challenge of their roles.
"I want to make the school an even more exciting place to be and anyone with a problem or idea can come and talk to me"(Head Girl)
"I am very happy to be Head Boy because I think the job is very important. Thank you for choosing me" (Head Boy)
The start of the new school year has brought about some exciting new opportunities for our children in music.
Our new Year 2 class have settled back into school with no problems and have been working very hard, much to the pleasure of their teacher Mrs Toward.
Thank you very much to all those who attended and donated towards this excellent charity which is so important to many people in our school community. This event was really well attended and allowed us to support both the charity and our parents of the new starters who began full time education today!
We raised £57.48 and will be running this event again next year as it was so successful!
Many thanks once again.
Please find attached term dates for the Academic Year 2008 - 2009.
We hope you will join us for as many celebrations as possible.
Sports Day, scheduled for this afternoon, will be going ahead as planned. If the weather changes and we experience heavy rain in the meantime, please re-check this site for any further updates.
We hope to see you there!
Sports Day will take place (weather permitting) at Gateshead Fell Cricket Club on Thursday 10th July at the following times:
Key Stage 1 1.00 pm
Key Stage 2 2.00 pm
Key Stage 1 children (without siblings) may be taken home after their events at approximately 2.00 pm (please ensure your child’s class teacher is aware of the arrangement). Remaining Key Stage 1 children will watch the older children’s events.
Please note the following points:
1. If the weather is poor, a decision as to whether Sports Day will go ahead will be made at 11.00 am and posted on this website. PLEASE DO NOT RING SCHOOL BEFORE THIS TIME.
2. The children have permission to wear their PE Kit for the whole day. All children will require a plain T-shirt representing their House colours (St Aidan = Yellow, St Cuthbert = Blue, St Bede = Green, St Oswald = Red) as it aids the point system and adds excitement to the day.
3. The children should bring an extra bottle of water for use during the sporting activities.
4. At the end of the afternoon, the children will be allowed to go home with their parents provided the class teacher has been notified of the arrangement. Those children not leaving from the field will return to school with staff.
5. We ask that no litter is left on the field and that you start praying for good weather.

On Wednesday the 2nd of July Year 2 accompanied by Miss Heal, Mrs Crawley, Mrs Daly, Mrs Hearne, Miss Gray and Jonathan Burn all travelled to Whitehouse farm in Northumberland. We had an excellent day and saw lots of lovely animals, we fed them, petted them and even held some of them! The weather was kind to us and everyone enjoyed themselves!
We are delighted to announce that we have been awarded both the Bronze and Silver Eco Awards for our school this term. Miss Alberts along with Year 5 led the rest of the school to gain this ecological award. Our Eco Warriors have regular meetings and talked to the whole school about how we can continue to improve our environment.
Well done everyone - let's keep up the good work and we may get the most prestigious award which is a Green Flag!
The Friends of St Peter's organised a family quiz in the school hall. The event was a huge success and great fun. Lots of families attended. Quiz master, Brian Rutledge, pitted his wits against them all but wasn't quite clever enough as the staff came out top again, with the help of Hannah and Abigail. It was a great night so get those thinking caps on ready for the next one.
Our Year 3 celebrated their First Holy Communion on Sunday 8th June 2008. The weather was fine and the children were fantastic! Everyone remebered what the day was really about and the children delighted all their families, friends and visitors with the way they read, sang and danced. Well done to all of Year 3 especially Mrs Temple who prepared the children so well! Thanks also to Father Michael and Father Kefa for helping to make the day so special.
There has been lots of exciting things going on in school this week, all have been designed to promote keeping fit and healthy and every class has been involved. We have had a mini olympics tournament, a penalty shoot out, dance-a-thon, skipping, three walk to school mornings and much much more!
