As mentioned on the website earlier last week, Years 2 & 3 had been invited to attend a 'Singalong morning' at the Dryden centre, organised by Mrs Porter and the music service.
There were 4 other schools involved and a great time was had by all!
The morning started with everyone taking their seats and the band being introduced. We were very lucky this year as we had musicians on drums, piano, double bass and recorder as well as Mrs Porter leading the singing to support us all. We began by singing "Tony Chestnut" which involved a lot of bending up and down as the words are all linked to parts of the body! (Think carefully now - Toe / Knee / Chest / Nut / Nose / Eye / Love / You etc!) This was a great song to begin with and warmed our bodies up nicely!
Woven into the morning were stories from a man called Tony Wilson. Tony came to Dryden all the way from Devon especially for the Singalong and his stories were fun and highly entertaining, full audience particpation was demanding and all obliged, even the grown ups!
As mentioned previously, each school had to perform their own indivdual item and it was lovely to see our children being very respectful, listening and watching carefully as other children performed.
Year 2 were the first of our two classes to perform to the rest of the hall, they found out they were going to the Singalong at very short notice but they still managed to put on a fantastic performance! We had 5, very brave soloists, Andrew, Thomas, Bethan, Aidan and Abbey all led the rest of the class with "Jim along Josie" where the soloit chose an action and sang their verse with the rest of the class echoing it. Following this, they all sang a "Oliver Twist" an action song that is sang in pairs, the children organised themselves very well and gave two very accomplished performances. Miss Heal and Mrs Crawley were very proud of the children and rightly so, Bravo!

After Year 2 had performed, we all sang several more songs together, including Zum Gali Gali (A traditional Israeli song) Old Joe Clarke (American) Land of the Silver Birch (West Indies) and the fun, if rather active Canadian Student Song. The children (and staff!) had a brilliant time and the singing was absolutely fabulous!
After several songs, full of action, it was time for Year 3 to get to bed, quite literally! Year 3 decided to show off their French talents to the other children performing two short songs. The first one was counting from 1 to 10 in French with children holding up the right numbers and words on time, followed by a fabulous rendition of "Six au lit" or "There were 6 in the bed" for you non - french speakers! The 6 children in the 'bed' all wore night caps in red, white or blue and throughout the duration of the song were pushed out by the little one aka Joseph. The song and actions were very well recieved by the entire audience and once again, the children's organisation of themselves on stage was fantastic as was the performance. They too, rightfully were very proud of themselves.
Overall, the morning was a huge success, special thanks goes to Mrs Porter who organised the events and participants. The children also need commended for their behaviour on the day, as always they were a credit to our school, the practises in school paid off as marvellous performances were delivered by all involved. Well done!
Miss Heal.
