Keen kids use area time to show off their writing skills!

The children in Year 1 have been enjoying looking at traditional tales so much that two members of the class used their area time to write their own version of 'Little Red Riding Hood'.

Two girls from the class, Lauren and Eve spent all of their area time writing a brilliant version of the well known traditional tale and their teacher, Miss Cowburn was so impressed with how the children had spent their own time writing the story and drawing a fabulous picture to accompany it that it was agreed with Mrs. Stokoe that everyone should get to see their hardwork. Miss Cowburn commented, 'I am so pleased that the girls chose to use their own free time to write a story and illustrate it. The children really enjoy area time as it gives them the opportunity to independently choose an area to work in. In our class we have various areas that interest all of the children in some way. We have a shop that encourages children to become familiar with money, a cut and stick area where the children can be creative in which ever way they choose and a computer area where children can work on painting programs or play simulatrion games. There are also many other activities the children can take part in such as building lego, sticklebrick and mobilo constructions. On this occassion Lauren and Eve had chosen to go into the writing area and used the large whiteboard as a canvas for their writing. I am really impressed the girls chose to do this, as area time can be quite limited due to the vast curriculum we cover and when it is available most of the children prefer to choose less challenging activities. Bravo to the girls and keep up the good work!'
